What We Do.
Over ten years ago, our family set up a nonprofit - Cattlemen Care – to help provide food to people, primarily children, who were hungry. Since 2008 Cattlemen Care has donated food to numerous groups including the Austin Children’s Shelter, Helping Hand Home for Children, The Settlement Home, Boys & Girls Club of Austin, Trinity Center, Caritas, Posada Esperanza, Austin Sunshine Camp and Austin’s homeless community. These meals are called “Goode Meals” in memory of our friend Jaime Goode and we have amazing students, parents and teacher volunteers to provide help and fun for these meals. We discovered that our most meaningful contributions included volunteers as well as food. So, we have made it our mission to help provide volunteers to groups in an effort to develop meaningful relationships. Since our inception we have provided over 1000 volunteers to the groups we have served.
Who & How We Help.
THANKSGIVING MEALS FOR FAMILIES
For the past 8 years we have helped organize special Thanksgiving meals for families of Boys & Girls clubs including those at Chalmers, Meadowbrook, Thurmond Heights, Rosewood Courts, Booker T. Washington housing authorities and the South & East neighborhood clubs. We have also helped the families at Jeremiah Project & Posada Esperanza with their Thanksgiving needs.
Settlement Home & Helping Hands Home for Children - 2008-now
We deliver food to children at the Settlement Home & Helping Hands Home during school holidays.
Austin's Homeless Population
From the beginning Cattlemen Care has been dedicated to helping Austin's Homeless. We have volunteered and donated food at Trinity Center, The ARCH, Caritas, and helped Lola by donating food and hours of time making breakfast tacos. Restricted access to the ARCH has provided a challenge to Cattlemen Care's ability to access this population. But, we continue to explore different avenues to provide food to a population in Austin very much in need of food.
Boys & Girls Club of Austin - Summers
We have committed to help provide breakfast for about 200 kids who are part of the Boys & Girls Club's summer program. Over the past 7 years we have provided approximately 1000 breakfasts a week during summer.
SPRING BREAK AT BOYS & GIRLS CLUB
Christmas - We helped with dances, parties and food for during the holidays! Face painting, dancing, great burgers, fun friends, awesome volunteers - 5 different events! A last minute devastating fire destroying the primary transportation for the kids to the East Club was an amazing example of volunteers and staff working together to make sure the kids didn't miss their holiday celebration - and in addition volunteers immediately began raising funds for the new bus! We were also honored to help several families with their children and grandchildrens' basic Christmas needs. So proud to be a part of this group!
For the past 4 years we have volunteered and helped to provide Thanksgiving meals for many families whose children attend the Boys & Girls Club. Since 2014, we have helped provide Thanksgiving meals to families of Boys & Girls club members at Chalmers, South & East Clubs, Mendez Elementary School, Meadowbrook Housing Authority and Thurmond Heights. Each year we have served over 400 families.
NATIONAL DAY FOR KIDS
2018 was our 10th year to participate in the Boys&Girls Club Day for Kids! Once again we were overwhelmed with the turnout of Austin High School volunteers. AHS and St. Andrews athletes were everywhere - playing games, serving food and most importantly playing the the kids.
